Hopocalypse Now

Drakes Hopocalypse is one of my favorite limited release beers that arrives on shelves and taps every year. Coming in multiple varieties including a Red and Black label, the beer is a double IPA that has an amazing flavor profile. For the purposes of this review I will be reviewing the Green Label, which is the most accessible to the general public. Drake’s has a rich history as a brewery with amazing beers such as Denogginizer, Aroma Coma and the Jolly Rodger. They brew a wide variety of beers and are located in San Leanandro California.

Hopocalypse naturally is an extremely hoppy beer that has flavors that explode on the tongue and make it a difficult beer to put down. For people such as myself who love and consume IPA’s weekly this beer is a celebrated release. The beer uses Simcoe and Citra hops and has a nice malty taste. The air exposure alters this beer tremendously as the beer got sweeter as I continued to drink it. The beer also gains balance as it airs making it the gift that keeps on giving. I highly recommend this beer to anybody and cannot wait for next SF beer week for this seasonal release to come around again. 5/5.

Cheers
